Using your surroundings to inspire the look of a photo shoot is a perfect way to make sure everything goes together.  For today’s senior inspiration post, Anna Gordon of Rick+Anna Photography shares how a rose garden inspired the look for this shoot.

“We wanted to create something unique, feminine and girly, without being too grown up!” said Anna.  “The flower crown seemed like the perfect prop for this rose garden shoot!”

I think this location was the perfect choice for this beautiful feminine photo shoot!  Check out what else Anna had to say about this shoot below and be sure to check out more of their work here.  Thanks for sharing Anna!

Anna and Rick also make a video to go along with this senior’s session and you can view it here.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
For this shoot we wanted to create something unique, feminine, and girly (without being too grown up!). The flower crown seemed like the perfect prop for this rose garden shoot.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
The Antique Rose Farm in Snohomish, WA.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes, we had a consult prior to the shoot where we poured over Taylor’s outfits and talked about her vision for her portraits.  We decided on neutral colors to compliment the rose garden, and planned on boho/hippie hair and natural makeup.  After her hair and makeup was done and we were in the garden she was totally in her element.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 5D Mark II, 70-200mm 2.8L, 50mm 1.2L, 85mm 1.4, Canon 35mm 1.4L.

What time of day were these taken?
Just before sunset (about 8:30pm)

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
Basic color/exposure correction only.  No special post-processing…all natural gorgeous sunset light!

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The gorgeous, warm, sunset light. Being in Washington we don’t see the sunshine very often, so we were thrilled when the golden light was spilling through the garden!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
If we had to describe our style with one word it would be “natural.” Natural surroundings, natural posing, natural editing…and this session really embodied that for us. Such beautiful natural surroundings, a beautiful senior, and beautiful natural light.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Communicate with your seniors so that you truly understand their vision for their portraits.  When Taylor’s hair and makeup were down, and the gorgeous flower crown was on her head…she truly came alive in front of our cameras in that garden – it was magical.  She was in her element, and her vision had become a reality, and it showed as she gained confidence and totally rocked it!
