What senior doesn’t love music?  And who doesn’t love a music-inspired session?  This session, photographed by Diana Camacho of Simply D Photography, uses this seniors love for music and turns it into a perfectly styled retro photo shoot!

Check out what Diana had to say about this session, how she set up the props and found the location that perfectly went with the theme of this shoot!  And be sure to check out more of Diana’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Diana!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?
We wanted to do something fun, unique, and fresh! We want seniors to know they can do styled shoots as well!
Where did this photo shoot take place?
This shoot took place in Hotel Indigo in Scottsdale, AZ.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
We did collaborate with her to get the retro look and we brought in cute props to help the theme out!

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?
I used my canon rebel t1i with a 28mm 1.8 lens!
What time of day were these taken?
We started hair and make up around 3:15pm and started photographing around 5:30 pm.
Did you shoot these all with natural light or another lighting technique?
It was all natural light, we were able to have a great lit up room at the hotel!
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I actually get my images as perfect as I can while shooting, so that when I go home to edit I can just touch it up!
What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love the idea of it and how the props looked so perfect in the setting.
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
We wanted to show that senior girls don’t just have to get pretty images done, you can get pretty images while showing off yourself, your interests, and what you like. This isn’t anything like studio photography and we care about getting to know our clients so we can in turn give them a wonderful session!
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Seniors can sometimes be self conscious, so by being able to get to know them before the session and being able to relate to them, will make for a great comfortable session with them.

Senior Inspiration – {Simply D Photo}

  1. OMG! I absolutely LOVE this session. It is one of he best sessions I’ve seen. And kudos to you for showing that you don’t have to have a super fancy camera to get excellent results; it’s about the photographer’s skills. How did you get permission to use the Hotel Indigo for the shoot? Did you have to rent the room?

  2. Diana says:

    Hi Kimberly!
Thanks so much for the comment love! Yes, Hotel Indigo did let us use the room, they were so gracious for doing that! I don’t think they allow free rooms anymore, since I recommended alot of photographers to use them. They probably started thinking and realized they should be charging haha!
