Asking your senior clients to send photos of what they plan on wearing at their senior session helps to determine the perfect location for their shoot.  That’s exactly what Ivette Olivares of StudioBlue Photography in Eagle Pass, Texas does with her senior clients.

“My inspiration came from her outfits,” said Ivette.  “I ask my seniors to send me photos so that I can get location inspiration from them.”

Check out this beautiful session below and read what else Ivette had to say about it!  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Ivette.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration came from her outfits. I ask my seniors to send me photos so that I can get location inspiration from them. I loved her sense of style! Her outfits were gorgeous.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This photo-shoot took place at a random street! I had previously driven by and once I saw my client’s outfits I knew that it would be the perfect location to shoot at.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
During our phone or in person consultations I always talk about wardrobe. I give them a few tips of what looks good in camera like bold colors, accessories, and such. I also share my Pinterest board of ideas with my clients so that they can get a few ideas of what looks good combined with their own style.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
For the session I used my Canon 5D Mk iii and the Canon 85 1.8. I also had my lovely assistant help me out by holding the reflector.

What time of day were these taken?
These were taken at around 5pm.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I usually filter my favorite images in Lightroom and pass the final cuts to Photoshop to finish the editing process. My first step is to tidy up the skin.. lightly remove any unwanted marks and stray hairs. I proceed with some dodge and burn, and then run a few of my favorite actions to finalize and give it the feel that I’m looking for.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session had to be her wardrobe and the location. The light was spectacular!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
My goal from the start is to be able to make my clients feel pampered and beautiful. It all starts with the hair and makeup. As a professional makeup artist I am happy to provide this service form my clients. I focus on enhancing their beauty! I want them to still feel like themselves so I try to airbrush so they can get a healthy glow yet not feel caked up in any way. I want them to be able to look back years from know and still remember the day with delightful memories!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
One thing I always have on my mind is that I want my client to shine through her images! I want her and who ever sees my work to see a bit of their character in those images. Let them be, make them laugh, and just try to capture random moments.. sometimes those are just the best images!
