A rustic Texas shoot with a senior who was comfortable in front of the camera sounds like a dream shoot!  This shoot by Tammy of Tammy Waida Photography in Woodlands, TX was exactly that!

Tammy did a great job scouting the location to match this senior’s style after reading her questionnaire!  Check out the session below and be sure to check out more of Tammy’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Tammy!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I was inspired by Samantha’s rustic vintage style and the beautiful light.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This shoot took place in Old Town Spring, Texas.  It is a turn of the century town with shops, museums and old falling down buildings.  It also has a great open field with beautiful evening sun.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes!  I send out a questionnaire to each senior so I can get an idea of their personality.  Samantha knew what she wanted to wear and we worked together to choose the best location for her outfits.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I shot this entire session with a Canon 50D and 50mm 1.4  I also used a 5-in-1 reflector.

What time of day were these taken?
We started shooting about 1.5 hours before sunset, around 6pm.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I like a clean edit, so I start with basic editing in LR and then pull the images into Photoshop to do any minor touchups.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love working with seniors.  The entire experience is fun, from hair and makeup to the ordering session. We had so much fun shooting and the light was so beautiful.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I loved that Samantha was so comfortable in front of the camera and I think it shows in her portraits. My goal for each session is to convey the client’s personality through beautiful images.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Really get to know your client before the shoot.  I have a questionnaire for each senior to fill out, we talk on the phone and I meet with them during their hair and makeup appointment.  That way everyone is relaxed and comfortable when the shoot begins.
