Getting to know your senior before their session with a senior questionnaire allows you to get to know them and plan their session according to their style.  Trinity Tolbert of Treebird Photography in Wilmington, North Carolina says that she found out this senior has her own unique style.  Trinity picked the location based on that unique style and it looks perfect together!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My senior. I always send my seniors a questionnaire to get a sense of who they are before the session. I found out that she was a very social and energetic girl who has her own unique style. I knew this urban setting would be the perfect backdrop for her look.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I guided her and gave her some suggestions, but she pulled the outfits together all on her own. 🙂 Together we decided on the locations for her shoot, and I had my talented hair and makeup girl, Jamie Warzel, pull Alex’s look together.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Sony a99, Sigma 85mm 1.4, and Sigma 35mm 1.4.

What time of day were these taken?
It was overcast, so we started 3 hours before sunset.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I edit in Lightroom 4 and use MCP enlighten presets with my own modifications.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The mood. I feel like we really pulled her look and location together nicely to create an almost vintage mood.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I always want to show off my senior’s personality. That is most important to me, because I want them to look back and remember the person they were right at that moment. I think we accomplished that with this session. 🙂

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Get to know your senior a little before the shoot. My questionnaire’s really help me. I like being involved and as helpful as possible during the planning process. I feel like this creates confidence in my seniors about me. During the session, I like to act silly and make them feel as comfortable as possible. I am not afraid to give compliments along the way to boost confidence during the shoot as well.
