Finding out your senior client’s passions help to plan the perfect session for that senior. Trinity Tolbert of Treebird Photography in Wilmington, North Carolina said that she finds out information about her clients by sending out a senior questionnaire prior to the session.
“Since Kristan has several passions, including reading, dancing and surfing, we wanted to include those into her session,” said Trinity.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My senior!
Where did this photo shoot take place?
Downtown Wilmington, North Carolina and Wrightsville Beach.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes! I send out my seniors a questionnaire in order to get to know them a little better before the shoot. The questions help us decide on the perfect locations and props if applicable. Since Kristan has several passions, including reading, dancing, and surfing, we wanted to include those into her session. I also had my amazing makeup artist, Amy Kennison apply her makeup.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I used my Sony a99 and 50 1.4 and 85 1.4.
What time of day were these taken?
We started the session two hours before sunset
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I use a combination of MCP Enlighten presents with my own customizations. I edited the entire session in Lightroom.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The use of all of her interests! 🙂
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
It is really important for me to have the senior captured for who they are during this time in their life. I want them to look back in years to come and see and feel the person that they were. I also want to show that I offer my clients a ton of variety and that my photos are timeless.
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
The most important is really getting to know your senior before the shoot. I use a questionnaire to help answer important questions. This helps me customize their shoot to fit their personality. In the end, your seniors will be happiest with an experience that was customized to them.
