When your senior client answers her questionnaire indicating her interest in a certain location that you have been wanting to shoot everything starts to line up for a wonderful shoot.

“I’ve been dying to do a senior session in downtown Orlando on Church Street, so when Tessa answered her questionnaire and said she wanted a downtown/city feel, I was beyond excited,” said Tristian Smith of Tristian Elizabeth Photography in Orlando, Florida.  “After talking to her more, I found out that she had never been downtown even though she has lived her for a few years which made this evening more exciting.”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Downtown Orlando in general. It is such an interesting place with all sorts of buildings and textures. I think scouting before this session was the first time I had ever been downtown even though I have lived here my entire life.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Downtown Orlando, Fl on Church Street

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark III with an 85 mm 1.8 lens

What time of day were these taken?
330 in the afternoon

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I try to keep my post processing simple and use a lot of techniques I learned in Sarah Modene’s perfect edit class. (Which is amazing by the way!)

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Exploring downtown Orlando with Tessa, her mom, and her sister (who will be a senior next year!). I really enjoyed spending time with these girls and connecting with them. Tessa’s entire session was full of laughing and joking right from the get go and it made the session feel even more fun and relaxed.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
Tessa was very laid back yet this ball of energy and smiles. I think that comes through a lot in her photos and is very representative of my senior photography style. I would say all of my seniors are very fun, energetic, and real and that is what I aim to capture during their session.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
I think hair and makeup is essential! I love watching the girls see themselves for the first time after their makeup is done and they have that look of awe on their face, like they can’t believe that they are looking at themselves. I think that boost of confidence before a session makes the girls more relaxed and willing to try whatever.
