Keeping your models busy throughout their year as a spokesmodel is a great way to build a relationship with them and have them stay excited about being a model for you!

Kailee Meyer of Kailee Willard Photography said she wanted to include her models in several shoots throughout the year.

“Instead of just one large session at the beginning of the year, I decided that I would give my models a different experience and include them in multiple shoots throughout the year,” said Kailee.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration for this shoot was the start of summer and the carefree, fun spirit of my senior models. Ever since my little sister told me about a paint fight she had at her friend’s birthday party, I thought it would be SO fun to incorporate that into a shoot, and boy did the girls love it!

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This session took place in a friend’s large backyard out in the country. The spacious area and shorter grass was just perfect to run around barefoot in, and the bountiful shade kept us from getting too hot!

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I explained my vision for the shoot to my models and gave them basic instructions to bring a pair of denim shorts, telling them that I would bring the white tank tops. They did such a good job of understanding exactly what I wanted, and I just love the variety that they brought, it made styling a breeze!

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I used my Nikon d600 and 85mm f1.8 for the entire session, as well as a reflector for the individual portraits.

What time of day were these taken?
Golden Hour

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session is how much fun the girls had. Any inhibitions they had went away the minute they started throwing paint on each other, and I love how each of their personalities really shone through in the final images.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to convey youth, happiness, and just that carefree feeling of being a senior. I want prospective clients to see that my style isn’t too serious or moody and that they’ll have a great time during their session.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
My biggest tip in regards to photographing seniors is to get to know them first. I always have in-person consultations with my seniors and can’t describe how invaluable it has been in getting them to relax and have fun during their session.
