Rock and Roll, old records, a paint war and senior models make for one fun looking Senior Model Shoot!  Melody White says she wanted her 2014 Senior Model Shoot to be fun, mess and all!!  It looks like it was exactly that!

Check out this awesome session below and read all about Melody’s Rep Program.  Thanks for sharing Melody!!

How did you come up with the theme or concept for your model shoot?  I try to keep up with current trends whether that is on Pinterest or magazines, and loved the idea of doing a rock n roll themed shoot.    My assistant and I accessed a huge record collection and the ideas started rolling from there.  I had a great location in mind and then worked with amazing stylist to see this vision come to life.  As far as the paint war, I really wanted to end the weekend on a fun note, with something that the seniors really would enjoy.  I had not seen the paint war concept done with seniors, so decided to go for it!  It was really so much fun!!

How did you find your reps/models?  Unlike other photographers in my area, I do not do an application process.  The feedback that I have heard, and what I found out is that the students do not enjoy that process.  Personally, I don’t want to disappoint anyone, or make any senior feel like they failed or fell short of some standard.  So we like to get referrals from current or past senior reps.  We then personally contact the incoming senior and see if they are interested and if my rep program would be a good fit for them.

How many different high schools are represented with your models?  I have reps in 6 different high schools in Sonoma County.  I typically like 2 girls and 2 boys from each school if possible

What qualities do you look for in a senior model?  I hope I can get all different types of kids represented in my rep program with all different interests.  But overall, I do find the outgoing, extraverted, and active in different extra cirricular activities reps have the most success with the program.

How many years have you done a senior model program/shoot?  This is my fourth year doing my Senior rep program.  It is such a blast and I look forward to it every year!

What incentives or rewards do you give your models?  My reps receive discounts on their session fee when they book a session with me, and the opportunity to be a part of these huge concept shoots for this amazing weekend is very appealing to these incoming seniors.  The watermarked images I get from that day are put onto different social media networks, and the students can use them and repost if they want.  For every referral each rep gives me, there are cash and gift card rewards…things that always perk a high school seniors attention.  😉

Where did this photo shoot take place?  IN downtown Petaluma

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?  With every model shoot we go over wardrobe and put together pintrest boards for each senior to work from

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?  I have the Mark 3 and used a variety of lenses but mostly my 85 1.2 and 35 1.4!

What time of day were these taken?  during the last four hours of sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?  I edit all my images using Michelle Kane’s actions!  She is the best:)

What is your favorite thing about this session?  I love bring to life these stylized sessions that I have been thinking about for months.  I love seeing it all come to life.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?  I feel like my style represents who I am.  I like to laugh and have fun and that is what comes across in my images.

What is one tip you would give another photographer on how to build a successful senior model program?  The best tip I could give is to KNOW your seniors.  Be current and learn about them…wether that is through facebook, or following their pinterest boards, find time to get to know them.   Invest your time in finding out what is going on in your area with these seniors.  Be involved in their lives, and I really come to care for these awesome people!  Last tip….. HAVE FUN!!!  Isn’t that what being a high school senior is all about anyway?
