Rep shoots are such a great way to create a theme or concept that you have been wanting to photograph, and Meg Sexton of Meg Sexton Photography create three different concepts for one big rep photo shoot!  Meg worked with an event designer and stylist and they all used their creativity to create three separate themes…Glam Ice Cream Parlor, Collegiate Them and Sun-Drenched Music Festival!  I love how each of these concepts turned out!

Check out what Meg had to say about her rep program and the shoot she did this year!  And be sure to check out more of Meg’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Meg!

How many years have you done rep programs for your senior photography business?

This is my third year of using senior models from my local high schools.

What is something new that you are doing this year with your rep program?

For the 2013 year, I wanted the sessions to be fun, energetic and a different experience from my typical senior sessions.  So instead of shooting each of the models individually, we spent a day shooting everyone together.  The images have my signature look to them, but they’re a bit more commercial, and they’re just more fun.  This strategy also allows me more time to shoot the senior clients that my models refer in to the business.

Do you do individual rep shoots for each girl or a group rep shoot?  This year we did one senior model shoot with three separate vignettes.

Was there a theme or concept for your rep shoot? Yes!  I worked with an amazing event designer and stylist to create three very separate and fabulous vignettes.  We shot a glam ice cream parlor vignette, a collegiate themed vignette on the railroad tracks and a sun drenched music festival vignette.

Did you collaborate with others such as makeup artists or stylists for this shoot? Absolutely!  I 100% believe that collaboration with other talented artists makes any creative venture more spectacular.  I worked with a wonderful event sylist (Kaella Lynn Events), one of my favorite hair stylists, a great make up artist (www.lisasmakeup.com) and we rented some perfect vintage props from a local event styler/antique curator extraordinaire.  (One True Love Vintage Rentals)

How many reps do you have from how many different schools? This year there were 4 models from 3 different schools.

Where did this shoot take place? Pleasanton, California.

What time of day did this shoot take place? Early evening and on through sunset.  My favorite time to shoot!

What equipment was used for this shoot? I shoot with 2 bodies, a canon 1Ds Mark iii and 5d (original – an oldie, but goodie!) Plus a handful of lenses – 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.8, 24mm 1.8 and 70-200 2.8 IS.

What props were used and where did they come from? All our props came from One True Love Vintage rentals, or from the girls themselves.  All of our props were theme appropriate for the vignettes and included a vintage patio set, colored ice cream glasses, vintage suitcases, books and cameras, an acoustic guitar and the American Flag.

How did you choose your reps? Everyone who applied was interviewed and screened for personality, involvement in school and extracurricular activities, and interest.

What does each girl receive for being a rep? A ridiculously fun session that included styling, hair and makeup, heavy discounts on the images from this session plus their own senior session and involvements in Meg Sexton Events throughout the school year.

What tips would you give other photographers who want to implement a rep program? Make it fun for the girls!  The more they enjoy being a part of your program, the more interested their friends will be to have a session of their own.
