This past weekend, I teamed up with one of my great friends and fellow blogger and photographer, Marsha Mifsud of The Savvy Photographer, to put on a Senior Shoot Out in Atlanta, GA.  We had a blast!!!  The location was cool, the models were beautiful and the attendees were super friendly!

Putting together a shoot out takes some planning and I love it!  Marsha and I worked super well together and each had our own tasks to help make this shoot out a success.  So how do you plan a shoot out?  Well it all starts with a little inspiration!

I usually start thinking of the type of senior girl that I want to portray in the shoot out.  Usually each girl has a style or theme and this shoot out was no different.  I started with a winter girl since that is the time of year that it is currently.  I searched Pinterest and found inspiration through a backdrop that I had in my closet…snow covered birch trees!  From there, I shopped for the clothes to pull off this winter girl theme.  Our model was dressed in a cute, flirty cream dress with a furry vest, fun tights and leg warmers!  Thanks to one of the attendees, we even had ice skates as a prop!  I orders super fine fake snow to use as a prop and glittery antlers and pine cones added to the set!

For another girl, I thought of the holiday that we will be celebrating next month…Valentine’s Day!  I was inspired by this super cute sweater that I found on Forever21.com that had an ampersand on the front.  It just said “you and I” to me and what other holiday do you celebrate couples more than Valentine’s!  From there, I again found inspiration on Pinterest.  I ordered a 3 foot heart shaped balloon (and filling this balloon was hilarious!), made fun pink, red and gold tassels to tie onto the balloon and even an “I love Seniors!” sign!  Add a top knot on the model, red lips and some super cute black rimmed glasses and you have the cutest preppy Valentine’s girl ever!!

The last two models were decked out in Seniorologie’s favorite clothing sponsors clothes, Altar’d State!  They sent us the cutest spring dresses that I just knew would be the perfect clothing for the Spring Fever theme!  Paired with bright jewelry, rain boots and some super cute umbrellas that I rented from Bella Umbrella, these girls made me wish for Spring all day!!  Having two models for this set was fun because the attendees could pose two girls together or split them up and do individual shots!

The shoot out took place at a studio in downtown Atlanta which proved to be the perfect starting point for our day of shooting!  Around the studio were the most fabulous buildings and we had tons of great places to shoot!  The artist district in which this studio was located gave a great backdrop for the day’s event!  I even made two backdrops for inside the studio as a bonus shooting location for our attendees!!

With the help of some of our friends in the industry, Marsha and I were able to pair each group up with a lead photographer to help guide them and provide tips and tricks during shooting.  Marsha and Michelle Poole led one group, Misti Davis and Amii Wroblewski lead another group and myself and Lisa Carpenter lead the third group.  Having the opportunity to ask questions as the attendees photographed the models is really what the shoot out is all about.  Nothing says learning more than just getting out there and practicing without the pressure of a paying client.  And just being able to hang out with like minded people allows everyone to grow and learn from each other!

I will be sharing the behind the scenes photos and the attendees’ photos this week so you can get a glimpse of the fun we had and what beautiful models we had!  Thanks to Tricia Toker for providing her own senior clients for this shoot!!  And thanks to my babysitter and former senior rep, Ragan for coming along and modeling too!!

All the models hair and makeup was done by the talented Vanessa Platt.  Thanks Vanessa!!

Below are a few of my images from the Shoot Out!  But stay tuned for many more beautiful images!!  And if you are interested in joining us on our next Shoot Out in VEGAS, click here for more information!!
