We love styled shoots and this one is perfect for this time of year…Fall!!  Who doesn’t love a great back to school photo session, and they are even more fun when they are with a senior like this!

Amanda of Amanda K Photography submitted this awesome session.  She worked with several people on this shoot including make-up artist Linda Johnson and Stylist Danielle Mineart of Simple Marie to pull together a fabulous back to school senior photo shoot!  Check out what Amanda and Danielle had to say about this shoot below!

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This photo shoot took place in the historic little town of Jacksonville, OR
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this photo shoot?
I used my Canon 5D Mark II , 85mm 1.2L II , 35mm f1.4L , and the 45mm T/S
What time of day was this shot?
We started this session about 2 hours before sunset, and I shoot until the sun is down!!
Can you share any post processing techniques that you used on these photos?
I cull and apply minor adjustments to the RAW file in LR, once in PS, I adjust my Brightness/Contract, Mid-tones, Saturation, apply various actions (Totally RAD) and sharpen.
What is your favorite thing about these images?
I absolutely LOVE the client!  She was so much fun to work with and was open to anything! The styling was absolute perfection, and the light was magic.  Three perfect components to a successful session!
What do you want this photo session to convey about this senior and about your photography style?
We wanted Jacquie’s images to convey style, sophistication, fun and timelessness. My style is definitely more editorial..I want my clients to feel like we are shooting for their favorite fashion magazine. 🙂
What is one tip you could share with other photographers when it comes to senior portraits?
It’s all about the experience!!  I want my clients to look at their images and remember how much fun they had. Post them on FB!!!  They LOVE to show off!
I also had the pleasure of asking the stylist a few questions regarding this shoot.  Below is what Danielle of Simple Marie Styling had to say…
What was the inspiration behind this photo shoot?  I wanted to create a “Back to School” Fall photo shoot.  I was inspired by the looks you might see everyday on a college campus, while adding a bit of drama with high fashion, texture and color!
Can you share with us how you pulled the looks together for the shoot and where they came from?
I always like to start a shoot casual and move towards a WOW look.  Each look is carefully pulled together in an equation of Coloring + Fit + Style + Trend + Hair + Make-up + Atmosphere.  It might look like she just threw on her converse, wrapped her hair up and slipped into a dress, but every detail is considered through a thoughtful and creative process.
I’m also a firm believer in finding great pieces at practical places!  We found all of Jacquie’s looks in her closet, her friend’s closet, my closet, Forever 21 and Target!!
What is the best part about styling for a senior photo shoot?  I absolutely LOVE styling seniors!  Each one is different and creative in their own way.  The best part for me is getting to know them and then finding some way to make their shoot unique.
What is one tip you could share with seniors (or senior portrait photographers) about dressing and styling for a photo shoot?  Tell a story.  Let the shoot evolve, and don’t be afraid to try new things!
How many different outfits were used in this shoot?  There were four looks.  But by just taking off her vest, putting her hair up or adding the leopard jacket it looks like six! 🙂
