Today’s Concept in a Box inspiration comes from Courtney DeLaura of Get Schooled Photo.  Courtney received the skirt from Anthropologie in the Concept in a Box box with a few tips and from there created her own version of Holiday Sparkle.

Courtney went with a Boho themed Holiday, complete with a horse and a vintage fur and the results are beautiful!  Check out what she had to say about the shoot below!

What idea/concept came to mind when you opened the concept in a box?
I was inspired to create a shoot that was a slight situation conflict between typically use for a floor length sequin skirt. I instantly thought of horses, stables, mud, boots and sequins.
Tell us a little about how you styled the skirt….
As I said above I wanted it to be a really mix of style. We did two looks; using a long aztec pattern sweater underneath a vintage fur cape all with deep tones against the bright sparkle of the skirt. The second look was a army green jacket and a pack. This was a much more simple silhouette but was soft and impactful.  I wanted to create the feeling of a young women with affluence that thinks it’s no big deal to go take care of her horses in a sequin skirt. My model is a equestrian and we laughed the entire time about ‘Oh you are just a wealthy horse owner, tending to your horses in your ‘ol’ sequin skirt’ we had a blast! Even though it was FREEZING. She was so lucky because of the thing layers.
What do you think is most beneficial about shooting concept shoots or shoots just for you?
I really enjoy the artistic freedom. As a photographer with lots of clients you have more then one person to please.  With a concept shoot you have just one person to please, yourself. It can really refresh your creative spirit.
How do you feel they help you grow as a photographer?
A concept shoot gives you time to hone your skills and create images with very little pressure.  I highly recommend a concept shoot when you are in a slump or feeling a tad burnout. A quick concept shoot can do wonders and really help you fall in love with photography again. It is natural to feel burnout, every professional does in all industries from time to time. Concept shoots are a burnout buster for sure!
What do you love most about shooting concepts?
Honestly it’s pretty plain and simple, concept shoots are just super fun. The images you can produce are outstanding and can give you a huge confidence boost.
