Senior guys may not be something we feature a lot on the blog, but we absolutely love showing off amazing senior guy sessions like the one below!

Hannah Capps of Paper Heart Photo in Greensboro, North Carolina said, “This senior session was full of adventure from the moment he said he wanted to do something more earthy, but also wanted to shoot some of his passion, soccer.”  “We set out to literally chase the sun and make some really cool photos along the way!”

And cool photos they created!  Check out this fun guy session below and read what Hannah had to share!  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Hannah!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Eric’s desire for a more mountain like setting set us on the path to a semi secret and super secluded rock quarry in the middle of the city. He also plays soccer, so we aimed to shoot some sport themed photos that were a little different from norma sport portrait.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Winston Salem, NC at the Rock Quarry in the city, and at the soccer fields behind Prolific Park in Greensboro, NC and on the top of a tall hill on the side of a road 🙂

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark ii, canon 16-35mm f/2.8, canon 24-105mm f/4, canon 50mm f/1.8

What time of day were these taken?
Afternoon into the evening past sun down.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The adventure! I love making memories with my seniors, wether that’s crawling under barbwire fences to a quarry, climbing on trains, eating hamburgers, or getting lost in the fog, making memories and making their seniors all about them is what I love. And Eric’s session was exactly that, all him, all in. Adventures and laughs and making art that reflects all the goodness inside of him. Those true laughing smiles are the best thing you can capture of any person.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
That he’s full of joy, and energy, passion, and adventure. I love to show off exactly what makes my seniors “them.” Eric’s seniors are full of all my favorite things about shooting graduates: laughs, beautiful scenery, their interests and passions. I hope that people are able to see that I’m wiling to literally chase their passions in order to capture photos to show them off in a unique and creatively beautiful way.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

LISTEN TO THEM. Get to know them. Meet up with them before hand if you don’t know them prior to shooting. Follow them on social media, and text them. Learn how they speak and how the portray themselves so that you can make their photos about who they are. Not just about your personal style, or what you think would look good on them. This is their time to shine, their year to stand out, help make that happen by knowing them and laughing with them.
