Seniors that have their own unique style are so much fun to photograph!  This senior’s fun, vintage style inspired the photographer, Kelly Armijo of Armijo Designs Photography, to create a photo shoot that reflects that style.

Check out the session below and be sure to check out more of Kelly’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Kelly!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?

The inspiration was this senior’s personality. She’s got this fun, vintage and quirky style. She’s an artist, athlete and an incredible cellist, so we wanted to showcase all of her talents.

Where did this photo shoot take place?

We started this session at a great location in downtown Klamath Falls, OR – lots of abandoned warehouses and industrial buildings. I am so inspired by the way the light bounces and moves through this setting. There is so much texture and color which I think adds a lot of dimension to the photos. We also met up at a beautiful local park right before sunset.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?

We both wanted a vintage feel to the session but I usually leave the clothing up to my clients. I always encourage them to use both color and texture but I really want to capture their own unique style. As soon as I saw her clothing selections, I was completely inspired. I loved how each of her outfits added a bit of fun and interest to each shot.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?

My Canon 5D Mark II and my EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L lens

What time of day were these taken?

In my favorite – late afternoon light 😉

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?

Well, I am a huge fan of Totally Rad Lightroom presets so that is what I always play around with. I’ve come up with a few of my own favorite recipes to give my photos their own unique tone.

What is your favorite thing about this session?

I am such a color girl – so I really loved how the colors turned out in this session, so vibrant and still soft.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?

What I try to do in all of my sessions is capture a person’s “true” self. I love using the natural light to accomplish this task.  This senior has such a sweet way about her and an inner beauty that seems to just shine through.  I hope that people viewing my photos see those same traits.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

Make them feel comfortable. You are in charge of setting the tone for the session. Relax, make them laugh, ask questions and listen. I have meet so many incredible seniors and I feel like once you put them at ease, you have the capacity to capture those truly special moments.
