When I first saw this session, I was struck by the beautiful use of headbands and hats.  I have always thought that these items are perfect of a senior session.  What a great way to show off this senior’s fashion sense!
Aubrey Reynolds of Aubrey Marie Photography did an excellent job incorporating these props and using the light perfectly to show off this senior and her fashions sense.
Check out what Aubrey shares below about this session and be sure to check out more of Aubrey’s work here.  Thanks for sharing!
What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?
– I like to let the senior’s unique personality and fashion style inspire the direction of the photo shoot. Presley, her mother, and I decided on the location first and then they put together outfits that represented Presley’s style and fit with the location.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
– This took place at a location called The Cascades in Tyler, Texas. The location was very special to Presley and her family because her grandfather was a founder of the area. Before the session, I scouted out the location and chose two specific areas to use. The first area was just undeveloped land around the neighborhood. I think undeveloped land is great for portraits because the greenery is not “too groomed”, but everything is still gorgeous. The second area we used was at the lake pier. I saved the pier for the last hour of the session so I could utilize the golden sunset.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
– Yes! I actually use Pinterest to help my seniors with their outfits. I created a board full of cute outfit ideas so my seniors have a lot of visual examples. I also tell my seniors to bring extra outfits and accessories to their session so we have extra options to work with. At the beginning of the session, we look over their outfits and decide what will work best and what order to wear them.
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?
– I used my Canon 7d and the Canon 50mm 1.8 for the entire session. I have since upgraded to the 50mm 1.4, but that 1.8 was such a great little guy for such an inexpensive lens!
What time of day were these taken?
– These were taken in the last couple hours of daylight. I absolutely love the “golden hour” and use it in every session.
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
– All of the images first go through Lightroom for minor white balance, brightness and contrast adjustments. Then I use Photoshop to touch up any noticeable skin blemishes. I have a couple of Photoshop actions I created to give my images a little “pop” or slightly vintage feel. Other than that, I like to keep it natural and elegant.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
– Oh goodness… Can I say everything?! I loved the location. I loved her outfits (especially her headbands)! And I loved how fierce Presley was in front of the camera!
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
– Well I don’t think it takes much to see that Presley is a gorgeous girl! If anything, I want people to see her confidence which I believe is a truly beautiful quality to have.
– As far as my photography style, I hope that people see a natural elegance and realness in my work. I strive to capture the personality beyond the outer exterior. Whether a senior is laid back, outgoing, silly, or quiet, I want them to see their true selves in each image and feel confident about that.
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
– Well I am still learning something new every day, but one tip I would give is to get to know your seniors. Chat with them and become their friend. That will definitely help them feel much more comfortable in front of your camera.
