I love when a senior session provides so many different looks for one senior!  This seniors fashion really shows off the different sides of her personality and the photographer, Courtney Walton of Courtney Walton Photography, did an excellent job capturing each look!
A lot of the photographer’s featured are natural light only photographers, so when I read Courtney’s submission, I knew immediately that I had to share her special lighting trick!  Courtney used off camera flash and instead of a soft box, she put a coozie over the flash head and that acted like a snoot.  How resourceful!!  Check out the last set of photos for this special lighting!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?
This photoshoot was actually one of my most unplanned photoshoots to date. I almost always get with the seniors beforehand to discuss clothing and styles and concepts. I didnt see what Tara would be wearing until the day of the shoot and I took her to all new locations. So I pretty much winged it the whole session. For me though, it almost seemed to flow better that way, to make me be more creative on the spot.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
The location where we shot the majority of the session was a friend of a friends house that I had never seen and we started about 2pm. From there we went to a parking garage and that is where we ended our shoot.
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?
I used a D700 with a 50mm 1.4. I used ocf with a softbox for alot of these and also a reflector on the soft gold side.
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
My post processing is very simple, I dont do a whole lot. I adjust white balance and exposure if needed in camera raw then pull photos into CS5. I always add a color pop action from Kuboa and I brighten the eyes a tad bit and finish up with portraiture at a medium opacity. I use a few actions from Red Leaf Boutique, mostly for my black and whites.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session was the bold color of Tara’s clothing, The blue skirt, the purple shirt, I love those colors!
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
A tip that was given to me that helped me so much is to learn to feel your locations. Where are you, what is the senior wearing, what is their personality? Really feel the location and that helps with posing. It helps so that you do not over think things, and just feel it and go with it.
