When you’ve known someone for a long time and watched them grow up, it is a special privilege to be able to capture them in their senior photos.

“I’ve known Haley since she was in the fourth grade,” said Heidi Harvill of Heidi Lin Photography in California.  “I was excited when her mother contacted me after not seeing them for a few years to have me help with creating a fun and unique session for her.”

Check out this session below and read what else Heidi had to say about it.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Heidi!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
This was all Haley. I mean she has got some style. She is very into music and has been in choir all of high school, so she knew she wanted her session to focus around that. The outfits she chose were so amazing. A little edgy and sophistication all in one.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
We ran all over Old Town Roseville and on the way home I could see this glorious light in an open field with trains in the background, so of course we had to end it there.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes, I met with her and her mother to go over all the outfits and accessories.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I used my Canon Mark III with my 135 and 85. I love these lenses.

What time of day were these taken?
an hour and half before sunset.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I primarily use Lightroom and am obsessed with my Red Leaf presets!

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The different styles that I got to work with. But the favorites was the end of the session, the colors are amazing, like I found a rainbow.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I loved that this showed Haley’s style. She is classy and but she is also a little edgy. I really wanted to show my photography as being natural and organic, not super posey.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
I love finding out about my seniors, what their style is, the music they like, what they want to do after high school. This time is about them and I want them to be comfortable in knowing that I will capture that for them.
