A beautiful outdoor senior session works so well because the lighting and nature together create a beautiful backdrop.  Add to that a beautiful senior with a gorgeous wardrobe and you have the makings for a spectacular senior photo shoot!

Jenifer Eligh of Jenifer Eligh Photography took this senior’s photos in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota this fall and the colors are beautiful!  Check out this session below and see what Jenifer had to say about this session.  To view more of Jenifer’s work, click here.  Thanks for sharing Jeni!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
The elements of Fall and muted color.  The senior has a fantastic sense of style and meshed those color tones with the elements of nature.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
White Bear Lake and Maplewood, MN

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I have all of my seniors text me pictures of their outfits so that I can map out their session.  I also have them fill out a detailed questionnaire that helps me to get to know them better, therefore creating an experience that directly reflects there personalities.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I use a Canon 6D with 105mm 2.8 and a Nikon D7000 with a 50mm 1.4 and 35mm 1.8 for my sessions. The only other items I bring on a shoot are clips, a step stool, blanket and a reflector.

What time of day were these taken?
Evening

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I shoot in Raw and my images are pretty on point SOOC.  I did have a little fun though using a sunset overlays from Kaleidoscope, cloud overlays from Florabella & a texture or two from Jessica Drossin. I usually only do that with one or two images from their session.  Other than that, I use Adobe Camera Raw, and PS6 for curves, levels, dodge, burn and Portraiture for the skin.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The field shots.  I absolutely loved playing with the overlays of the sunsets with the openness of a field.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
Her beauty is effortless, which meshed seamlessly with the backgrounds we used. I want to portray a touch of Vanity Fair through my images, I want classic, elegant with effortless connection.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Take the time to get to know and educate your clients.  The more you connect with them before had, the more relaxed they will be when they arrive to the session. Make them feel as if they are the only client you have this entire year.  It speaks volumes.
