Capturing the environment in which a senior client grew up helps tell the story of who that senior is, especially when she grew up in such a beautiful location as Colorado.

In this session below, Jennifer Wyeth of Jennifer Wyeth Photography in Colorado Springs, Colorado says, “We wanted to embrace all that is Colorado.  We wanted to capture where she grew up and spent her Saturday mornings as a child.”

Check out this gorgeous session below and see the beautiful location as well as the beautiful senior in these photos.  Thank you Jennifer for sharing your work with Seniorologie!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
We wanted to embrace all that is Colorado. We wanted the trees and the nature. We wanted to capture where she grew up and spent her Saturday mornings as a child. This beautiful forest is 20 minutes from her home.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Colorado Springs, Colorado

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
She and I worked closely on everything from hair and make up to clothing, to accessories. I feel strongly that working together with each individual senior allows their senior session to represent who they are while still expressing my artistic side.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark II. I used my 100mm macro (L series). Both are Canon lenses.

What time of day were these taken?
three hours before sunset until the sun set.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
When post processing I don’t change too much. I enhance what is already there. I burn the background a little bit to pull the focus towards the client as well as brighten up the image with a very small vintage flair. I sharpen the eyes and get rid of blemishes.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The client. 🙂 Aside from her, I think that we did a great job with having a variety of styles. It always helps to have beautiful scenery as well.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I love natural settings and beautiful light. I love light coming through the trees and light that brings life into my client’s eyes. My style is fun and candid as well as posed and a little more sassy. I get a variety of shots but make sure each and every one of them expresses my beautiful senior! This particular senior has it all: giggles, sass, school spirit, and a big heart. Her pictures portray each side of her.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Senior girls want to know the entire session is about them! They want to be the center of attention for the day and that’s exactly what I do! From professional hair and make up, to videography, to bringing their favorite snacks, I MAKE SURE it is their special day… and without fail, they leave the shoot by giving me a huge hug and telling me what a blast they had!
