Flowers and flower headresses are really in right now and they make the perfect prop for a senior girl’s photo session.  Flowers have always been something that make girls smile and incorporating them into a senior photo session is a great way to convey a romantic feeling.

Meaghan Pafford of Meaghan Photo did an excellent job of using flowers and accomplishing a romantic feeling in these photos.  I love the soft light, the beautiful styling and amazing set she created for this photo shoot!  As soon as I saw these photos, I knew I needed to show them off!!

Meaghan worked with an amazing makeup artist to help her complete the look she was going for with this shoot.  Jen Lewis of Pastel Makeup helped bring Meaghan’s vision to life with the use of makeup.

Be sure to read what Meaghan had to say about this shoot and learn how she created such romantic and beautiful photos!  Thanks for sharing this with Seniorologie, Meaghan!!!

What was the concept/theme/inspiration for this shoot?  The concept of this shoot was “Bloom”.  I knew I wanted to do something
with lots of floral elements.  I started seeing some images on Pinterest using flower crown’s and I immediately knew that was something I wanted to do.  I also wanted to use two actual high school age girls to get a really young and fresh look.

Was this a shoot just for you or for a client?  This shoot was something for me, not for a client.

If this was a shoot just for you, what did you hope to learn and/or practice with this shoot?
I wanted to practice posing my models and getting detail shots in a more prop heavy shoot.

Where did this shoot take place?  This shoot took place at the Tom Watson-Brown House in Thomson, Georgia.

What time of day? We did this shoot in the evening around 6:30pm.

What equipment and lenses were used during this shoot?  I used my Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 50mm f 1.4

Tell me about the props used. Did you make them or purchase them? Where did they come from?
This shoot was very DIY.  I did quite a bit of research on how to make the flower crowns, because I knew I wanted them to have fresh flowers.  I also found out while trying to make them that I should never become a florist…I did a terrible job trying to make them!  Thank goodness for my best friend Jessica Seigler, she helped (meaning she basically made them) me make them and did a fantastic job.  We ended up using a mixture of fake and fresh flowers to get it to hold up.  The other props were just some things I had around the house.  I have a vintage tea cup collection, and I also used some of my Grandmother’s hand me down table cloths as well.

Did you work with a makeup artist, hairstylist or wardrobe stylist on this shoot?  If so, tell us a little about how you found them and what the experience was like working with them?

Yes, I used the makeup artist I normally use for my senior sessions, Jen Lewis to do the hair and makeup.  We have been working together for about a year now.  We met through some mutual friends, and she has a really great reputation in my community.  It is always a great experience when I get to work with her, We understand each other very well so I always trust her judgment with makeup and hair.

How did you find the model or models for this shoot?

I have known Summer and Taylor for a very long time.  They are sisters and have both modeled for me in the past. I wanted to do a shoot with both of them together.  On top of the fact that they are both gorgeous models, they almost look very similar but distinctly different at times.

What do you want this shoot to convey about your photography style?  I wanted this shoot to be Feminine, youthful, and colorful.

What piece of advice would you give other photographers when it comes to putting together a concept or themed photo shoot?

Concept shoots are my absolute favorite!  I think they give me a chance to have fun and be as creative as I want.  Concept shoots are one of the best things you can do to foster creativity in your work.  Make sure you write down your ideas small or huge and run with them.  You do not have to spend tons of money to do a great concept shoot, you just have to learn how to work with what you have and make it awesome!

What is your favorite thing about this shoot?

It is hard to decide my favorite part about this shoot, because I think it all came together so well.  But if I had to choose I would say my models were my favorite part of the shoot.  As fun as the props are, shooting people is my favorite part of photography.  It’s not about the frills but the beauty in the people I am photographing.
