Finding a senior with an old soul is such a treat!  It is so nice to see teens that love all things vintage and appreciate those time!  This senior is one of those teens!
Michelle Boyd of Michelle Boyd Photography says she decided to pack a few vintage suitcases just for props and realized once she saw her client dressed in a vintage dress and hat, she knew it was meant to be!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?
Kathryn’s personality is so FUN to begin with! We’d gone thrift store / vintage clothing shopping once before, so I knew I had to bring some vintage suitcases I had lying around. She showed up in her precious vintage-floral-find dress and her mother’s sunhat and I just about swooned with delight! The thing I wanted to convey most for Kathryn was her free spirit. She is one of the most peaceful, sweet, and joyful people I’ve had the pleasure to know.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
On University of Mary-Hardin Baylor’s campus, where Kathryn is currently studying in her freshman year! Also around downtown Belton, TX.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Not too much really! I knew she’d come with something fun and “her” to wear, she made it so easy.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?
Nikon D300s, 50mm f/1.4

What time of day were these taken?
Evening, on a pretty windy and overcast day.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
Since it was quite overcast I loved all the even tones and lighting on her face, which allowed me to let most of the colors POP! I used Adobe Camera Raw to post-process them.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love the colors and boldness we were able to achieve. I love that it shows off Kathryn in all her preciousness.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
With my seniors I try my best to simply show the world who they are. I feel that with Kathryn we were able to capture her vintage spirit, peaceful heart, and joyful exuberance for life.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Definitely get to know your seniors WELL! Ask them lots of questions to capture who they are, take time to dream and think of how they “look” to you, and then show that to the world. I love that graduating seniors have so much excitement and life about them– with so much in their future they can’t help but show excitement on their sweet faces! Learn how to love them well : )
