Asking your clients during a consultation or senior questionnaire if they are involved in any sports or extra curricular activities can help you plan a shoot that is specific to your client.

In this shoot, Natasha of Natasha Snyder Photography in Santa Fe, Texas  said, “during our original consultation, I always ask my clients if they play any sports or are a part of something extra curricular so we can showcase that side of them in a shoot.  She is a surfer gal so we took advantage of portraying a classy elegance with something that she loves dearly!”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
During our original consultation, I always ask my clients if they play any sports or are part of something extra curricular so we can showcase that side of them in a shoot. When I had asked, she said “Nope, But I do Surf!” Immediately, I said…BRING your surfboard and whatever comes along with it! (I have never surfed or been around any surfer, so I had no clue what was all needed! lol)

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Galveston Texas! The first series of these photos, which are not included, took place on the Strand of the Island as well as the beautiful Hotel Galvez! The part that is submitted was located on the beach of Galveston Island.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Did not collaborate much with this client. In our consultation before our shoot,I let her know to bring outfits that showcase her that she loves and is comfortable in! I did however ask if she had a dress she would not mind wearing that could get muddy/sandy or wet for the beach!

What time of day were these taken?
Afternoon

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite part of the entire session is how well my client took direction was not uncomfortable to try anything! Her personality made it easy to direct and get some amazing shots!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
This senior has a passion for the water and a love for surfing. She may be a total tomboy, but yet she is very classy and feminine at the same time…and I wanted to make sure I was able to portray that. I try to keep my style with a warm, soft, classy feel. Something that from generations to come does not loose style or a fad that is in the now. Don’t get me wrong…sometimes I enjoy those things…but I want something my client or their parents can hang on their walls for a long time 🙂

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Golly, my best advise from what I have learned in shooting seniors would be to let them be them and have them comfortable being them. Once that is accomplished, the magic begins! 🙂
