It’s all about the movies this week!  First, we had the amazing Wizard of Oz themed rep shoot on the blog yesterday (and if you missed it, click here) and today, we have a Grease-Inspired stylized senior session!  Grease 2 happens to be one of my other all time favorite movies (even though most people have only seen Grease 1) and I am currently singing “Cool Rider” as I type this post!

But this session was inspired by Grease 1, which also a favorite movie of mine!  I think this is such a cute idea for a senior session, and I think lots of different movies can be an inspiration fora fun stylized senior session.

Galicia Virgen of Photography by Galicia is Pasco, Washington, said, “More and more high school kids are into watching old movies, and Grease just happens to be one these seniors both recently watched!  Of course, we added a little modern twist to it!”

Check out this fun session below and read what else Galicia had to say about it.  Thanks for sharing Galicia!  To see more of Galicia’s work, click here.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
A local high school was having an “Throwing it Back Old School” themed dance.  I decided to take advantage of that and helped these two 2014 Seniors create and come up with a theme. I am a fan of GREASE… (I secretly wanted to be Sandra when I was younger, who didn’t??!!)

Where did this photo shoot take place?
There is a great industrial area in our town, totally fit the theme.  Old rustic buildings with broken windows.  LOVE it!

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes.  I am sooo lucky that my daughter, Sydney, is a 2014 Senior.  This session was a great opportunity to share my love for old movies and she added some modern twist to it. A mother-daughter collaboration!

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
D700
50 mm 1.8 lens
Abandon Car
& my son’s moped
MUA – Amy Stroud Contreras

What time of day were these taken?
Golden Hour

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I really love clean edits.  I don’t use any actions, I tend to try it and always come back to my way of editing.  I strongly believe in getting it right in camera more minimal post processing. Photoshop for me is only used to enhance my images.  Real, Simple, True: my motto for when I head out to a shoot.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session is that I got to spend time with my daughter!  I love that she thinks my job is cool and that I’m cool!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
Good question!  I want this session to convey that just by adding a few details and props can really enhance the whole session.  Involving your clients, especially in the behind the scenes process will create an excitement thus show in the images.  My senior photography style is more editorial and classic.  I really want all my seniors to feel gorgeous and like a model.  I work with a team of fabulous make up artists.  I tell my senior clients that their make up should only enhance their beauty!  The best compliment I have received was from a 2013 Senior saying that after she saw her images from her session, she felt more beautiful and thus stood a little taller.  That’s why I LOVE my job!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
The only tip is to create a relationship with your senior.  I ask a ton of questions so that I get to know them, really get to know them – and CARE!  I friend all my senior clients on whatever social media they are on.  I “stalk” them and every once in a while I will drop in and congratulate them on an achievement or leave some positive feedback on whatever it is that they are doing.  Having their trust in you is not easy to get but one that can be achieved by getting to know them.
