Best friends want to share everything!  So why not share a senior photo session!  It is the perfect chance to capture photos of themselves at this special time but also capture some photos of the bond they share!
Shannon Hollman of Shannon Hollman Photography says that shooting BFF sessions are so much fun and are some of her favorite sessions to photograph!!  And with fun girls like the ones in these photos, I can see they all had a great time!!
Check out what Shannon had to say about this photo shoot and be sure to view the photos below from the shoot.  Also, you can check out more of Shannon’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Shannon!!
What was your inspiration for the photo shoot? The girls knew they wanted to do a best friend session. So we tossed around some ideas and came up with a girlie picnic type set up in the back of a truck. They also wanted to do some other random shots too, but the truck set up was the main idea.
Once they found the amazing red truck, the rest just fell into place.
What is different about a best friend shoot versus a single senior shoot? Best friend sessions are for FUN! With a senior session, yes!, you want to have lots of fun, but your goal is also to get a great shot for the yearbook and beautiful portraits. Best friend session are more about being silly, a little crazy and capturing the friendship between them so they will always have these moments to look back on.
What are some poses that work well with best friends? I don’t really pose when it comes to bfs. They adore each other so the second you say stand next to each other, they just kinda do their thing. Girls are huggers and that’s always a great shot. Girls laugh and giggle a lot…and those all come very naturally.
How often do you do best friend photo shoots for seniors? I do a handful a year. I wish I did a lot more. They are some of my favorite sessions. There is nothing like a true best friend…..and many of them will part ways and go to different colleges and these sessions are always something they can remember and have together.
Where did this photo shoot take place? We did this session on a friend’s private property. I knew we needed a field for the truck and this spot as a great field with beautiful light.
Did you collaborate with the seniors to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot? We did collaborate. I helped with the idea and the props, but the girls completely took charge in getting the props and then they chose their own clothing.
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot? My canon 5d classic, 50mm and 85mm
What time of day were these taken? These were taken in the late afternoon…a couple hours before sunset.
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session? I don’t do a lot of editing, so it was very minimal. Just a bit of contrast to help pop the colors and that was about it.
What is your favorite thing about this session? Everything, can I say that? Hope so, because that’s my answer!
I love LOVE best friend sessions!!
What do you want this session to convey about these seniors and about your senior photography style? These sessions are fun and that’s what it should be…fun!! In any session, the pictures should be incredible but the experience should be amazing!!! I want every one who does a session with me to be able to think back to it and remember how much fun it was.
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors? Let them be them. Let their inner beauty/talent/personality shine through. It may be different for every person, but it’s there…..try and capture it.
