Mixing a love of fashion with a bit of vintage was what this senior wanted for her photo shoot.  By picking a great location and even finding an old work van, Katelyn McKay was able to give this senior exactly what she wanted for her senior photo session.

Katelyn McKay of Katelyn McKay Photography in Raleigh, North Carolina is only 14-years-old!!  Not even a senior herself, yet she has been the owner of Katelyn McKay Photography since October of 2010!  I think that is pretty amazing!!

I can see from the photos below, that Katelyn has a very bright future ahead of her and many more senior photos to take!!  Check out Katelyn’s work below and be sure to see more of her work here.  Thanks for sharing Katelyn!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?
I’m always inspired by my seniors and I want to capture them being completely them! Courtney wanted something with a country feel that would make her fashion choices totally pop- which it did! We also wanted to bring her session some variety with more of an urban feel to the second half of the session.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
Starting off at a field in my neighborhood, we then ventured over to a nearby town, Fuquay Varina, for something more urban.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
This girl did all of her magic in clothing choice by herself. She is really into fashion + said that she had already picked out so many outfits. I was obsessed with her choices, too! 🙂 We both collaborated with the actual concept for the shoot – she wanted something with a little country scenery and tall fields. We also wanted something to make her photos pop, and to go along with her passion for fashion so we headed downtown Varina.
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark II with the 50 1.8 as well as my 5-in-1 reflector.
What time of day were these taken?
We started off at 9am, and went until mid to later morning…lots of bright sunshine!
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
Well I use Lightroom mainly, and I use my own presets…I always add lots of color + contrast to the background. I love making my photos bright and vivid. 🙂
What is your favorite thing about this session?
We loved going behind old buildings or down side roads and finding really unique elements to add something different to her session…take the rusty old work van, for example…totally my favorite photographs from her session, but we almost passed it!
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
Pure fun + excitement! This senior was laughing so much, and she has such an upbeat personality. For my senior photography style? Again, lots of fun! On every shoot I go on, there is always lots of laughing and always big smiles, and I strive to show that in my photography.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

Get to know your senior really well, and make them feel relaxed, like you’ve been friends forever! Once they’re in their comfort zone, they will open up and you’ll capture their real personality.
