Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy are two of the world’s most iconic style queens.  Their look was so classic and it has inspired many fashions for decades.

Kelly Cowieson of Kelly Anne Style in Humble, Texas saw her senior client’s dress and knew that it would work perfectly with a concept shoot inspired by those two style icons.

“I loved that it was clean cut and had a swing look that is so sixties fashion couture,” said Kelly.

Check out this amazing photo shoot below and read what else Kelly had to say about this session!  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Kelly.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Olivia’s dress! It was a black ‘Jackie Kennedy’ “Audrey Hepburn” rich, manicured, elegant style. I loved that it was clean cut and had a swing look that is so sixties fashion couture. The length of the dress was also a hit as it added to a younger modern vibe. And of course Olivia’s dog Annabelle.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
In my home town in Saginaw, Michigan.  Saginaw is rich in history and preserves it well.  We shot at the historic store fronts on Michigan Ave.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Once I saw the dress and pictured the shoot in my minds eye – I was so inspired.  Describing it to them I called it a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” concept. Olivia and her mom could feel my excitement – they trusted my talent allowing me creative liberties. I appreciate that about my clients.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I shoot with a Canon 5D MARK III and my go to lens for this set was my 85.  I use available light and had a silver reflector to boost.

What time of day were these taken?
mid-afternoon

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
Before I even shot one frame I knew I wanted to see these images in black and white. Because of the 60’s era vibe I use a black and white film shift with grain.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love that we brought to life another part of Olivia’s personality. Although Olivia is not an every day vintage girl – (you can usually find her at the lake, barefoot in cut off jeans listening to Luke Bryan) vintage is a part of her story.  From her grandmother’s influence to the family home and of course her beautiful dress. While our main focus was not Olivia’s vintage side – we pulled of some fantastic images that we are all excited about and we did it in a realistic timeframe keeping with the flow of the entire session.  This section of her album (a Finao album of course!)layout has us screaming like middle school girls at a Hunter Hays concert!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
A young woman in what appears to be her ‘best’ feeling beautiful, comfortable and having fun.  A little eccentric but always classy and relevant. I know that Olivia will remember her senior portrait experience with KellyAnneStyle for the rest of her life.  Its an experience where fun memories are made and she will have magical portraits to last a life time. I can just imagine her grand children looking through her heirloom album! What I wouldn’t give to be there.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
My best advice regarding conceptual shoots  for a client session is this: Make sure the concept is one they can connect with.  There are plenty of concepts that as a photographer I am dying to shoot, however there is a huge difference in the energy and connection between subject and camera when the concept is one that is a part of her story and personality.  I’m not in the business of making ‘characters’ out of my clients.  I want a concept that is her.  One she believes in. That’s what it’s about.
I also keep it simple with client concepts.  I don’t incorporate a bunch of distracting props.  I love the simplicity of Olivia’s shoot. The sixties elegant fashion editorial or ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s” as we named it is clear still keeping all of the focus on Olivia. Her hair, her eyes, her poise.  I think it is more powerful that way to shoot.
